White Christmas

We here at NWR would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas. We had a great 2008. Thanks for making it out to our events and clinics and buying our gear to support the brand. We appreciate our fans and customers and are excited for 2009.

The snow has hit Seattle and the rest of the northwest hard! That means great mountain conditions and excellent snowboarding and skiing. Have fun out there...stay safe, and enjoy the holidays!

See you all in 2009!

Flip it, flop it, fold it

We have the new gear trickling into the Northwest Riders office and it is officially Tag/Fold/Bag time. If anyone wants to have a sweet folding party give us a shout and maybe we can enlist you ... all the Red Bull you could ever want is the payment.

Plus...if you have never ran the "Flip-Flop-Folder" then you are in for a very special treat. Heavy machinery it is not, but if you aren't careful it could possibly dislocate a shoulder or maybe bend a fingernail...chew on that for a bit.

Let me explain...

is this weird?

So I was not too clear yesterday on the phrase I mentioned was spoken in regards to our clothing being held up and wanted to elaborate after receiving plenty of questions on Facebook. The phrase "I am a little worried here.." was uttered from the crazy character that we purchased clothing labels from. Now I don't know about most of you...but I myself don't ever really expect to hear such reinforcing and confidence instilling words from a vendor when we are in a time crunch trying to make a deadline.

On that note...the labels arrived...turns out it was the Drunken Contortionists at the border. They wanted the labels for something practical I am sure. Exactly what though we can't be too sure.

Other Notes This week:

Big Sale at Grizzly-Sports in Mill Creek, WA : Saturday 15th
Longboard Race in Lake Forest Park, WA : Sunday 16th

Tagtastic...

Just when you think you are gaining some ground Murphy's law kicks in. Things have been rolling smoothly the last week, however, as we near the completion of the goods the following phrase was coined:

"I am a little worried here.."

Hopefully this little snag is not in the midst of becoming a big one...some of our goods got "lost" somewhere in customs. Leading theories pin the culprit(s) as:

Sandworms
Drunken Contortionists
Yosemite Sam
Chupacabra
Rosie O'Donnell

We are still pushing to have the release of our new winter garments out this month...just in time for snow. Stay tuned here and on our web site (www.northwestriders.com) for the info.

Westport, WA - This weeks report

Fall and winter mean Washington and Oregon surf season kicks off for us after capping a long summer of wake clinics, events, and lessons recently. I just checked out the surf report at the typical spots and it looks like a few fun days are ready to be had. I am in lazy boat bum shape, but it seems I now have my motivation to get off the couch.

If anyone wants to charter the bus for any surf trips let us know. The locations we travel with groups is pretty limited, but well known areas are usually a sure bet for some fun waves. Contact info is on the main website along with some more on the bus as well.

Greg Young: Serial Exaggerator?
... I Think Not

Words: Greg Young | Northwest Riders

Over the years, I feel as though I’ve gotten a bad rap amongst some of my friends as the guy that “makes up stories” or “invents fictitious characters” just to be funny. My only defense has been to simply state that for some odd reason I come into contact with an enormous amount of strange people and even stranger situations. I do not seek these random people or events out, I just seem to constantly be in the right place at the right time.

It wasn’t until this summer that a few of my friends finally happened to experience these random happenstances with me. After an in depth investigation and some long overdue soul searching, a few of my friends have finally begun to admit the truth: I am simply an animated storyteller with a knack for remembering small details of stories that others seem to miss. I hardly invent characters or give them weird accents, I just tell it like it is. Just ask Brandon Robins about the mysterious “pig women” of Tri Cities, or Zack Clark or Brent Starr about the Coeur d’Alene resident aptly named Billy Bob who gave us some memorable stories at the boat launch one night. While there are too many tales of peculiar people to recall, I am doing my best to right the wrongs that my slanderous “friends” have done to my own personal credibility.

I was recently taking a train home from a sailing trip to San Diego when, as usual, I met a peculiar old man. As I was sitting there watching the scenery go by in the observation car, a white haired fellow plopped into the seat next to mine and asked if I’d like to play a game of chess. Having not looked up as he sat down, the first thing that stood out to me was his thick Irish accent. It sounded as though a real leprechaun had finally found the end of the rainbow and I was sitting next to it. I looked up and was astonished to see that the leprechaun man actually looked like the small mythical creatures of Irish lore that his voice resembled. Actually, he looked a bit more like the by-product of a leprechaun that impregnated a Billy goat. After getting destroyed at chess, I decided that none of my friends would ever believe me about this guy, so I told a few people that were sitting near me that I was an author writing a travel diary and I needed them to pose for a photo. I figured it was the only way to capture the image of this rare creature and prove to my friends that my story was the real deal.

Have a peek at the photo yourself and tell me if I was lying. Without further ado, the mythical lepre-goat, aka billy-chaun.
